Yacht Medusa Bay
4 April 2011

Bernard Matthews II

The Caister ALB was called to the yacht Medusa Bay which had lost all power and was adrift amongst the Turbines off the Scroby windfarm.

The two Be
lgian Sailors had tried to navigate around the outside of the turbines to get to Great Yarmouth Harbour but their engine blew. Unfortunately the only chart they had was very out of date and did not show the Wind Farm. The best route would have been to come inside the Windfarm but not knowing the area they decided to go the long way round.

When we got to her she was right amongst the spinning Turbines with a very tall mast which could have hit. Also they were in danger of smashing into the steel bases. Luckily the windfarm support vessel with Micky Nutt onboard managed to hold them clear until the Caister ALB arrived.

Crewman Tommy Williams and Jason Delf were put on the stricken vessel to set the Tow whilst Crewman Andy Hewitt controlled the tow from the Lifeboat.

Whilst setting the tow we were drifting very close to the turbines and got the hurry up from Coxswain Paul Williams.

Once the vessel was under tow we headed for Great Yarmouth Harbour and across Breydon to Goodchild Marine.

The Lifeboat was back on stattion by 18.55.

Crewman Richard Miles Launched and recovered the Boat.
